About
Watching Local Government. Asking Questions. Getting Answers.
Rockland Watchdog is an independent local government accountability publication focused on Rockland County, New York.
We follow public records, attend meetings and court proceedings, submit Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, review government documents, and ask public officials the questions residents deserve answers to.
Our reporting focuses on local government, public spending, contracts, courts, code enforcement, zoning, school districts, public records, and other issues affecting Rockland County residents.
Our Approach
We believe accountability reporting should start with the records. Whenever possible, Rockland Watchdog will publish or link to the underlying documents so readers can examine the evidence themselves.
We distinguish facts from opinion, seek responses from the people and government agencies involved in our reporting, and correct material errors when they are brought to our attention.
Rockland Watchdog is independent and nonpartisan. Advertising, sponsorships, or personal relationships do not determine our coverage.
